THE WINDOW

BLACK OCTOBER

PHILOSOPHY. We had to change all the piping in our place so we have moved to a nearby flat for the month of October. No window to the sea, a wall of windows instead. No sun, but a perennial gloom coming from the top of the inner courtyard. I might have harnessed expectations, in life, to be content with what I've already got, but attachments, that 's the one difficult prejudice to overcome. I wish I didn't mind, and be free with it. It isn't so much the one month, it is the fear.
PS: No writing corner either :-)

PwC by the GUGGENHEIM

POETRY

I met my former colleagues at PwC
at Bilbao for a "working" breakfast.
My old office there by the Guggenheim
with the weirdness of a thunder bell
seemed capable of falling over in a mess
of steel and titanium, made scrap metal.

ROMA (2004) by Adolfo Aristarain

FILMS. There are countries than one can love like if they were a woman. This was Argentine for me. I watched the movie - Roma - and my dreamt Buenos Aires was there. The pain too. There are movies that one likes because they are like oneself. I met José Sacristán - the actor that plays the old writer in the movie - once. He acts like he is, not really an acting asset, but I liked that too. Absolute consciousness about the fact that we cannot relive life, not even revisit the memories of a haunting past, can be a desperate thing.

HIGH DINNER

LIBERTÉ-ÉGALITÉ-FRATERNITÉ. We talked about the fairness of a society with public universal health care and education for all the citizens. Of a country? Of Europe? Of a city? Of the world? Shared with our Moroccans friends and neighbors?
I played the "accountant". Our host played the "generous provider". Dinner was at his terrace, on the heights of the city, his privilege to choose.
