CAFE IRUÑA

MEMORIES. When I.A. made of Cafe Iruña - a decadent old style big Cafe -the fashion place in Bilbao where everyone in the city met, lunched, had coffee in the afternoons and listened to music in the evenings like taking turns to keep the place fully packed from morning to night, I was by his side, the boy for you name it the errand. Everyday was a thrill on those days. Then I joined a bank, like it didn't make sense to study so much to end up running a bar, but I stilled joined the boss'es table now and then for a while. He sat at the top of a secluded long table at the end of the Cafe. Protégés, his little realm, friends in need, and the occasional beauty would gather around for the free meal. Then, suddenly, I was already living in London, he died. Young. The man capable of making his will happen, most of the time, against the odds.
Last week, 25 years later, one of those strange things of life put me again working for him. His son and daughter  - children then, now on their 30s - are now in charge of the old Cafe, trying to save it from its new decadency. It is like an old duty to do some errand for the boss again. I could feel the thrill back too.
Banking can have these things - see Sherwood Forest - unlikely as it may seem :-)
